Passing through on my way to Utah. There were five people in the restaurant but it took forever to get help to order some ice cream. I ordered two scoops and asked for an extra styrofoam cup since I was sharing and we were going the be eating in the car. The woman said she would have to charge me for the cup. How expensive is styrofoam??? Since I didn't get cones I asked if I could substitute the extra cup for the cones. She gave me a dirty look, gave me the smallest styrofoam cup she had, and walked away. I won't be back. Learn some customer service.

Eaten here once and honestly don't feel the desire to return. The hype about the burgers is very over exhaggerated and the service was very slow. Nice vintage environment though.

After waiting 10 minutes for two young customers to decide how and what to get, and expecting to endure another 10 minutes before that transaction was completed, we left. Two other employees behind the counter were oblivious to the growing line and continued to do their side work rather than intervene and take care of the waiting line of customers. Perhaps this is LaGrande style service. Perhaps I am impatient and critical. Either way, I left. I will not return.

Sign says: Open Monday - Sunday 11ish - 9 Small town business hours? New employee without much training was slow, but produced good tasting food. Good food!

My boyfriend and I love this place! After our favorite date-night Restaurant closed down, we decided to give Hought's a try. As college students, what really defines a great eat-out joint is a mixture of cheap and delicious. Hought's has a huge menu and a lot of customizable options for burgers. The choices were overwhelming at first but we have made it a challenge to try every item on the menu. The first time we went to Hought's it was our one-year anniversary and we were not disappointed. We were able to get two burger meals w/fries, a premium large mixed-drink, side of onion rings, and two-scoop ice-cream cones (each) for under $25 with tip! Plus, even though we ate a lot, we didn't have that achey feeling in our stomachs afterward. We have come to think that this is because the food is all local and non-greasy. We saw our burgers taken out of the refrigerator and fried on the stove; brings new meaning to fresh never frozen. The place has a nostalgic feel to it and a history rich with small business success! I love how all of the food is listed as local and organic, especially since outside date night, I try not to eat non-GMO and organic food as much as possible. I love that I don't have to destroy my digestive system for a night out. All and all, I can say that Hought's has far surpassed our former favorite restaurant. We get a lot more food for about the same price as the old restaurant and we have more choices. We also noticed that the owner was present and cooking food while we were there! It's just an awesome place that is definitely within budget.

Stopped in on a whim on our drive home to Boise. Looked cute and was full of people--figured that was a good sign. It kind of was. Place was cute 50s style with good food and friendly service. But a main reason for the crowd was they are slow. Really slow. Other reviewers and said the same thing so not a one time issue. But I'll give them the 4 stars for all the other things it has going for itself. Just don't stop in if you are in any sort of a hurry-- or have ANY plans the rest of the day.

Overpriced and the ice cream is just Umpqua. They don't make it or anything. I was disappointed. If you come here for ice cream, you're better off buying Tillamook from the store. They weren't that nice either. Maybe the rest of the food is better. I won't be returning to see.

Short staffed that day and that's the only negative thing I can say about this place. Had gummy bear ice cream on a cake cone for 1 dollar. Gf had the huckleberry ice cream which was recommended, slightly over rated to me. But great atmosphere and clean. The gummy bear ice cream is delicious. Any questions just ask the friendly staff.

This is a really cool little joint. It's a small ice cream shop with a small griddle and their huckleberry ice cream is amazing! its like a time machine back to simpler times of ice cream. I'm eager to try one of their old fashioned steak burgers -update to come!

My kids LOVE this place. Really good burgers and food. Ice cream is great! Carla is always there and super friendly. We love going to support this locally owned shop!

To be fair, I've only had ice cream here. No one in the place, served fast. Chatted with the lady behind the counter. Loved it. Like an old-time ice cream counter. I had Birthday cake ice cream and it was good. Large portions. After reading reviews, I can understand how people want fast service, but having lived in a small town, all I can say is, that's how small towns are. Slow. Be prepared to experience that if you visit La Grande in general.

I ordered a cheese burger and curly fries - Mmmm mmm good! Their own unique flavors of ice cream are delicious - especialloy the Maui Waui! The atmosphere is nostalgic, historical (it originally opened in the 50's and has a lot of the original furnishings). I highly recommend this old time diner!

What a fun place! We were traveling to Boise this weekend and decided to stop at La Grande for lunch and gasoline. Took the first exit into La Grande which took us through the older part of the city. While driving down Adams Ave. we saw this little old place on a corner called Hought's 24 Flavors. Aha, I thought just the place for a great burger and a shake. Inside looks like an old soda fountain shop - red stools, that spin, lined the counter, only four tables inside and several outside. We were welcomed by a very friendly staff (3 people). You order from the counter where there is a pretty extensive menu of items - pretty much what you would expect. We both ordered the Hought's burger, which is a seasoned patty (25 cents more than the regular, but it is the way to go, burgerwise) - it was really good. Not the best burger I've ever had, that will always be found at the Helvatia Tavern, but a good burger. My wife had a chocolate shake, which was not chocolatey enough for her discerning palate, thus the four stars instead of five. The sign says they have 24 flavors of ice cream, but I think it is wrong. I believe they have more! I order a salted caramel shake - don't think I've ever seen that on a menu before. It was great. If you are passing through La Grande (if you live there I am pretty sure you already know about it), I recommend you stop and give them a try. While you are eating, try to figure out the "Oregon cities" puzzle on the table - it will make you laugh. Saw the cutest little boy come in, crawl upon on the counter stools, and spin around. His head was barely over the countertop. In his most mature voice he said, "I want some ice cream!" The girl behind the counter, even though she was busy, took time to talk to him and patiently wait for him to decide which of the 24+ flavors he wanted. Kudos to her!

Well, we waited for an ice cream for 20 minutes. One person working and she was slammed. But it was worth the wait. Ice cream was the best and atmosphere was back in the 50's. We will return

We stopped on a summer road trip, on our way back to PDX. La Grande is pretty far out there, but we will be trying to come up with vacation plans in the future that take us back through this place because Hought's WAS SO GOOD. The huckleberry milkshake was fantastic, and I just drooled on my keyboard reminiscing about the berry cheesecake ice cream. So cheap, too.

Yum! Yes, I like ice cream. When we actually drive through this treasure, we stop in here! Are there really only 24 flavors? It seems like there are a hundred of them. You can find just about any delicious flavor you could dream of. You want to come here whether it's a cold or a hot day. This ice cream is just too good to miss.

I like Night's but it is too expensive for what it is. The place could easily be spruced up a bit and $5 for a blah hamburger or more for a little seasoned salt is a bit much. I do however LOVE the home made waffle cones. Also you never see the same people working there twice and the owner seems a bit intense.

Excellent local flavor. A destination favorite with the valley's locals. Open most Sundays, which is really rare for a locally owned restaurant in this area. Recently spiffed up by someone who really appreciates the original 50's diner and soda fountain experience. I recommend the Hought's Burger and the Blackberry shake.

I've been two Houghts 24 flavors about three times now and each time I question why I went there to begin with. The environment is nice but it could be so much better than it is. The diner is set up like the old 50's styles diners which is awesome, but it just lacks the finer touches that could really set it apart and make it stand out and ultimately make it a destination spot in La Grande. Each time I have been in I have ordered different hamburgers and each one was just average with an above average price. I am amazed at how much my bill is every time I go to Houghts. My wife and I went the first time and got two burgers, two fries a soda and a milkshake and we walked out paying about $30. I was shocked to say the least. I didn't even pay attention to the prices when ordering because I figured a burger joint would be reasonably priced. Not so. It also took forever to get our food each time we went in. The lady behind the counter was cooking one hamburger at a time and there were a couple n front of us waiting so we got our food about 25 minutes after we ordered. The shake didn't show up till about 45 minutes later. Not sure what the deal was, but the slow service has been consistent each time we've gone in. The shakes are pretty good, but for $5 they better be. Overall I don't think I'll be going back any time soon. Edit: 07/2014 Still very slow on the grill. Why do you cook one hamburger or order at a time????? Get someone on the grill who knows how to cook multiple burgers! Please!!
